About Us

Scotloads was founded in the Summer of 2005 by Chris Rasdale and David Carus.
As old school friends, their love of music had developed together in younger years
through listening to old vinyl records and strumming away on old battered acoustic guitars.
An upbringing in the Highlands of Scotland provided them both with an almost mystical
introduction to music, which has stayed with them and helped form the vision of Scotloads.

The last few years have seen a revolution in the way people make, listen and sell music.
Scotloads has been set up with the notion of using technology to promote local music to
as many people as possible. It gives musicians of all genres the opportunity to promote
themselves and get a fair return.

There is a fantastic wealth of musical talent in Scotland, firmly grounded by a colourful musical heritage and cultural present.  The long-term aim of Scotloads is to unite musicians whose roots lie in the Scottish traditions and offer their music to a world audience.

Chris studied Electronics with Music at
Glasgow University and after graduating
moved back to the Highlands in 2003.
As a talented guitarist, singer/songwriter
and fiddler himself, he has had an active
interest in the Scottish music scene for
many years.

Since returning to the Highlands, he has
focused on sound engineering and set up
a project studio in 2004. He regularly
tutors children in guitar and fiddle and
his recent work with the Fèis Rois has
helped to bring traditional music
workshops to some of the most deprived
areas in Scotland.

Although his roots lie in folk music, he has
a wide appreciation of many different types
of music. Chris is a keen supporter of live
music and is heavily involved in promoting
art and culture within Scotland. As well as
his involvement with Scotloads, he regularly
hosts a show on Scottish Internet Radio
(www.internetradio.co.uk) that showcases
many of the up and coming artists on the
Scottish scene.

David Carus

David studied European Civilization at
Glasgow University and then studied
Philosophy in Freiburg, Germany. He is
currently writing a PhD on Schopenhauer after translating
Schopenhauer’s work “The World as Will
and Presentation”. He has lived part time
in the Highlands for the last 3 years.

David has always had an active interest in
music. His Dad, being a big supporter of
jazz around Scotland and having a generous
supply of old records, first got him
interested in blues, rock and folk music of the 60s and 70s.

He learned to play the piano as a child and took up the guitar at 16. He often writes simple songs himself, but above all loves to hear good local musicians and talented artists from all around Scotland.

Music is now an integral part of his life;
from hearing Chris play in the front room,
to interest in local bands, to the recent
founding of Scotloads, David spends all of
his free time surrounded by and involved
in music.
