Pipes: Scotland is well known for its bagpipe music. Most famous are the Highland pipes, although the small, Border and Lowland pipes have become increasingly popular in recent years. Bagpipe music is often split into the categories Cčol Mor and Cčol Beag, meaning “big music” and “small music”. Cčol Mor consists of piobaireachds, which are a kind of variation on a theme. Cčol Beag includes dance music, marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs and hornpipes. Today bagpipe music comes in many forms from folk bands through to military bands. |
