Shetland's sensational fiddle band, FIDDLER'S BID, featuring four dynamic fiddlers, guitar, bass, keyboards and clarsach, creating an exhilarating sound, recorded "Hamnataing" at Watercolour Studios, Ardgour, for Greentrax.
The Band's unique sound has developed from Shetland's rich tradition of fiddle music, given a fresh approach by the fiddlers, backed by a driving rhythm section. The Band plays a selection of music ranging from high energy reels and jigs to haunting airs. The original arrangements of old and new tunes, some self-penned, creates the magical Fiddlers' Bid sound captured on this recording. This is the Band's second album (first for Greentrax).
The Band consists of Chris Stout, Andrew Gifford, Maurice Henderson & Kevin Henderson (all on fiddle), Catriona McKay (Scottish harp and piano), Steve Yarrington (guitar) & David Coles (bass guitar).
Debut album reviews:-
"The record captures the spontaneity of their live concerts and should be in the collections of all music lovers" - Aly Bain.
"We are on to an absolute winner here" - Jim Loyd "Folk on 2" BBC Radio 2.
"For me it is a unique representation of Shetland-based musicianship presented for international consumption with integrity, with fidelity to sources, yet above all with that unassuming vitality which characterised the blend of talented personalities which is Fiddlers' Bid" - Shetland Times.
The Band will promoted the new album with a short Scottish tour with a featured appearance at 'Fiddle '98' in Edinburgh. There was a joint M.N.E./Hummingbird production for television broadcast in the U.K., Ireland and the U.S.A. in 1999; The Band played live at the annual Edinburgh Hogmanay event the same year. |
