BATTLEFIELD BAND see their Celtic heritage as neither a myth nor a millstone. With an approach that is ever respectful of tradition, they have led the great resurgence in Scottish music that has been happening since the early seventies. But they have never regarded the tradition as something of the past. It's alive and well and as relevant as ever it was. Refusing to be limited musically by suffocating antiquarianism or the "music biz" they have mixed the old songs and tunes with new self-penned material, playing them on a unique fusion of instruments, ancient and modern .. .. bagpipes, fiddles, synthesizers. With every year that has gone by they have won new fans through a steady stream of acclaimed albums and a touring schedule that covers many hundreds of thousands of miles, yet they still are fresh and committed. They have broken down barriers and pioneered many new directions which others have followed. Angry, joyful, raucous, contemplative, their music is, most importantly, accessible to all.
