"It is surely a sign of the continuing health of Scotland's nouveau-roots scene that it encompasses not just all manner of Celtic-based crossover acts but its own home-based "world" music contingent, putting a Caledonian spin on sounds from further afield. Increasingly prominent among this subsector are Glasgow's Zuba, whose new EP displays a wealth of slick assurance in its taut interleaving of African and Caribbean influences with rock and dancefloor rhythms. Fronted by Jerry Boweh's warmly stirring, delicately hoarse-edged vocals, alongside Robin Miller's superb lead guitar, Zuba occasionally call to mind Peter Gabriel, the Afro Celts and Ireland's Kila — all in a good way, especially since their sound as a whole is so confidently their own."****
